This Catalan region has an average temperature of 16 degrees Celcius (61 degrees Fahrenheit), moderate rain and over 2,500 hours of sun each year. The name, Costa Brava, describes the rough character of the coast. On the coast you can find rocks and bays, which are absolutely stunning. The Costa Brava has wide sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. In these waters, it is warm enough to swim at the end of May. These beaches are loved by the British and of course by the Spanish themselves. Most of the beaches have terraces and restaurants, where you can enjoy a cool glass of sangria, sea food dishes and the lively holiday atmosphere until late in the night. Some of the better known beach cities are: Blanes, Lloret de Mar, Roses, Tossa de Mar, Calella, Malgrat de Mar and Platja de Pals. Platja de Pals is located in the heart of the Costa Brava, it has a long and wide sandy beach where you can enjoy different sporting activities such as surfing. Platja de Pals has many shops and cosy terraces and due to its central location is perfect to discover the Costa Brava.

The best known cities on the Costa Brava are Gerona, Figueres and of course Barcelona. Other than Madrid, Barcelona is considered the most important city of Spain.
